10. The plan

Just as the sun rose, George Hedgehog set his rescue plan in motion.

He sent the three moles into the chicken coop through Mippy’s tunnel.  Then he told the four young hedgehogs to hide behind the bushy weeds a short distance outside the cage door.

“What should we do?” Aunt Zaza asked.

“You and Igrene will watch for the forester, and warn us by calling out, “Sack man!” when you see him coming.”

Mr. Fazzi strode about in the coop, while the hens scuttled out of his way.

George Hedgehog posted his loop of string through the wire netting to loop around the latch of the door.

Aunt Zaza reported to Igrene, “Secret string is on the move.  What now?”

“This is madness!” said Igrene.  “Mr. Fazzi has slumped down, as if he is dead.”
